Frequently Asked Questions

How does your coaching work?

Though I also offer general life coaching, I mainly work with clients on setting goals that will improve their overall physical and emotional health, focusing on basics like nutrition, exercise & movement, sleep, hydration, and stress management. Focusing on the basics can often reduce or even sometimes eliminate many common health issues and ADHD symptoms. I coach clients on the limiting beliefs, assumptions, and negative self-talk that might be preventing change. I provide support and accountability. I also teach clients how to cook healthy meals without a recipe (if there’s a desire to learn).

What’s the difference between coaching and therapy?

There’s overlap between coaching and therapy (especially Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and they can work well alongside each other. However, coaching is more goal-oriented. It mainly focuses on the present, while therapy often focuses on healing the past. Coaches are good at asking questions and getting to the bottom of the thoughts, feelings and actions that are preventing change, creating a space for awareness and growth.

However, coaching is not meant to replace medical treatments or therapy. Therapists are trained in things like psychopathology, trauma recovery, and treating mental illness. Coaches do not have this type of training, and it’s our responsibility to refer clients to a therapist or medical professional when the situation calls for it. Coaching is a perfect option for those who feel they’ve reach the maintenance phase of therapy, but want to keep working on self improvement.

What training & qualifications do you have?

I was trained and certified through iPEC, a program that’s accredited through the International Coaching Federation. Over 9 months, I received 300+ hours of ICF-accredited training as a life and wellness coach. I’m also a PN L1 Certified Nutrition Coach. Prior to working as a health & wellness coach, I graduated from the culinary training program at L’Academie de Cuisine in Gaithersburg, MD, and worked for over a decade as a recipe developer.

What do the initials after your name stand for?

CPC stands for Certified Professional Coach.

Do you take insurance?

Unfortunately, coaching is not currently eligible for health insurance coverage. I’m hopeful that this will eventually change. In the meantime, I do offer payment plans.
